Height-check questions parents ask

How strictly does Universal measure height?

Strictly, and usually more than once – at the ride entrance and often again at boarding. Kids are measured with shoes on, and team members round down. If your child is within half an inch of a minimum, expect it to be a coin flip on the day; thicker-soled sneakers are the classic parent move, but the final call is always the team member’s.

What is a Supervising Companion?

Universal requires guests under 48″ to ride with a “Supervising Companion” – someone 14 or older who meets the ride’s requirement – on most attractions. Under 48″ also can’t roam the parks alone. Over 48″, kids can ride almost everything without an adult beside them.

What if one child can’t ride – do parents have to split up?

Use Child Swap (free): the whole family waits in line once, one adult rides while the other waits with the little one in the Child Swap room, then they trade places without re-queuing. Nearly every big Universal attraction has one, and it’s the single best reason a mixed-age family shouldn’t skip the headliner rides.

Which park is best for kids under 40 inches?

Epic Universe and Islands of Adventure tie for the most no-minimum and 34–36″ attractions, plus play areas (Seuss Landing, the SUPER NINTENDO WORLD interactive elements, How to Train Your Dragon’s Isle of Berk). Universal Studios Florida skews slightly older – its kid anchor is the DreamWorks Land area and E.T. at 34″.
