Quick answer: For a first Universal Orlando trip in 2027, most families need 4-5 days and a Park-to-Park ticket now that there are three full theme parks – Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and the new Epic Universe – plus the Volcano Bay water park. Buy a 3+ day Park-to-Park ticket: as of 2026 those tickets include Epic Universe, so you do not need to buy Epic separately. Stay at an on-site hotel if you can – the top-tier ones include Universal Express Unlimited, which skips the regular lines. 1. How many days do you need at Universal Orlando now?

2. Which Universal ticket actually saves you money?

This trips up almost every first-timer, so here’s the plain version. For 2027:

• 3+ day Park-to-Park tickets include Epic Universe. As of the 2026 ticket change, a 3-day-or-longer Park-to-Park ticket covers all three theme parks – Studios, Islands of Adventure, and Epic Universe – with multi-day access to Epic. This is the ticket most first-time families should buy. You do not need a separate Epic Universe ticket.
• 2-day tickets only include one day at Epic. If you buy a 2-day ticket, Epic Universe access is limited to a single separate day – another reason most families are happier with a 4-day trip.
• Park-to-Park vs. Base: Park-to-Park lets you hop between parks in the same day, which matters a lot at Universal because the parks connect and the Hogwarts Express train between Studios and Islands of Adventure requires it. For a first trip, Park-to-Park is almost always worth it.
• Add Volcano Bay only if you’ll actually use a pool/water day – great with younger kids, skippable for a go-go-go teen trip.

3. Where should a first-timer stay?

Universal’s on-site hotels are its secret weapon, and the biggest first-timer money-saver hides here. The three Premier hotels – Loews Portofino Bay, Hard Rock Hotel, and Loews Royal Pacific – include Universal Express Unlimited for every guest, all day, which lets you skip the regular standby lines at Studios and Islands of Adventure. That perk alone can be worth hundreds of dollars for a family, and it’s free with the room.

If Premier is over budget, the Preferred and Value hotels (Cabana Bay, Sapphire Falls, Aventura, plus the newer Epic Universe-area hotels) still get you Early Park Admission and easy walking or short transport to the parks. 5 first-timer tips we wish everyone knew

1. Do Epic Universe first, and rope-drop it. It’s the newest park, so it draws the biggest crowds. Arrive for Early Park Admission and hit the headliners before the day fills up. Our rope-drop strategy guide maps the exact morning.
2. The Hogwarts Express only works with Park-to-Park. First-timers are constantly surprised the Harry Potter train between the two Wizarding Worlds needs a Park-to-Park ticket. If Harry Potter is a priority, this settles the ticket question.
3. Book on-site with Express before you buy standalone Express. If line-skipping matters to you, a Premier hotel room that includes Express Unlimited is often cheaper than buying paid Express separately for the family – and you get the hotel too.
4. Budget a full day for Epic Universe, not a half. With five lands, first-timers who give it a few hours leave disappointed. It earns its own day.
5. Don’t overbuy on your first trip. You can always add a day or Express in-app once you’re there. We’d rather build you a right-sized 2027 package than sell you extras you won’t use.
