Unsure whether to stay at Surfside or Dockside at Universal Orlando? This guide compares perks, food, pools, pricing, and tips for your trip.
Everything in the world feels more expensive these days. That includes going on a theme park vacation. However, that does not mean a vacation at Universal Orlando Resort is unattainable. Universal Orlando Resort offers two value-level hotels that provide plenty of amenities. In fact, they are sister hotels that serve as the Endless Summer Resort. They are known as Surfside Inn & Suites and Dockside Inn & Suites. These two hotels are very similar, much like Stella Nova and Terra Luna.
However, unlike Stella Nova and Terra Luna, guests choosing either Surfside or Dockside are staying at a value-level hotel based on Universal Orlando Resort’s hotel categories. Both Endless Summer Resort hotels are in the same hotel category as Cabana Bay Beach Resort. However, almost always, either Surfside or Dockside (or both) will cost significantly less a night than Cabana Bay Beach Resort. So, for many guests, the budget vacation decision comes down to Surfside or Dockside? .
Both are affordable, family-friendly, and packed with perks like early park admission and complimentary shuttle transportation. Still, many travelers ask the same question: Surfside or Dockside—which is the better Universal Orlando resort? Many variables factor into this decision. Having stayed at both hotels several times, we have some strong thoughts that elevate one over the other. Despite that, this resource strives to provide as much information as possible about these two lovely value-level hotels. This will be done in an effort to help guests make their own informed choice of where to stay for their next Universal Orlando Resort vacation.
Basic History

When Universal Orlando Resort first unveiled its Endless Summer Resort concept, it redefined what an affordable theme park vacation could look like. The project introduced not one, but two distinct value hotels, Surfside Inn and Suites and Dockside Inn and Suites. Each one designed to offer guests a relaxed, budget-friendly stay without sacrificing style, comfort, or perks. Located on the site of the former Wet ‘n Wild water park, these hotels provide families, groups, and solo travelers with access to Universal’s signature benefits, like Early Park Admission, shuttle transportation to the theme parks, and the kind of immersive theming that makes a Universal vacation feel complete.
Surfside Inn & Suites opened in June 2019. Dockside Inn & Suites planned to open in March 2020. However, that opening was delayed until December 2020. Unlike Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort, the Endless Summer Resort resides in an area on Universal Boulevard that feels less “on-site.” This can be seen as positive and negative depending on your group. However, from this location, the complimentary shuttle bus rides to Universal Epic Universe are shorter than from Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort and many of the other on-site hotels.
Price Point

Dockside Inn & Suites – Pier 8 Market
At first glance, Surfside Inn and Suites and Dockside Inn and Suites may seem interchangeable. Both are officially branded as “value” resorts, with nightly rates that rank among the lowest of any Universal hotel. For example, we found rooms this month costing $105/night. Both feature a large number of two-bedroom suites designed with families in mind, offering space for up to six guests. That is something you will not find at most Disney Value Resorts. Of course, if you do, the price will be significantly higher than the $160 we found for a two-bedroom suite late this month. Additionally, both also share the same Endless Summer beach vibe, complete with bright décor, playful pool areas, casual dining options, and an atmosphere that feels far removed from the hustle of the nearby theme parks.
Still, while they share a common theme and value-conscious spirit, Surfside and Dockside each have their own personality. Surfside Inn and Suites, the smaller of the two, with just over 700 rooms, feels more intimate and easy to navigate, giving guests quick access to its single central pool, food court, and lobby. Dockside Inn and Suites is nearly three times the size, boasting more than 2,000 rooms across twin towers. Its larger footprint allows for multiple pools, expanded dining areas, and a livelier atmosphere that appeals to bigger groups and those who enjoy a more resort-like feel.

Final Recommendation

Dockside Inn & Suites Two-Bedrooom Suite
So, Surfside or Dockside…that is the question! For many of us, we prefer the easier access to International Drive and the smaller feel of Surfside Inn & Suites. However, we have trusted colleagues who love Dockside Inn & Suites for the additional amenities and having a more theme park resort feel. Either way, both hotels offer fantastic Universal Orlando Resort perks at value pricing. This makes the Endless Summer Resort a win for families, groups, and budget travelers alike.
