Epic Universe just celebrated its first birthday — and it’s the first brand-new major theme park to open in Orlando in 25 years. If you’ve been waiting to see whether the hype held up before booking your family’s trip, this is the guide for you.
We’re the Griswolds. Planning Universal Orlando vacations is what we do every day at Pixie Vacations, and we plan it the way we’d plan it for our own family — no fluff, no pressure, and no fees. Here’s the honest answer to the question we’re hearing most this year.
Short answer: Yes — and 2026 is a better time to go than last year
When Epic Universe opened in 2025, it was incredible — but the ticketing was confusing and the park was a pricey add-on. The biggest change at the one-year mark fixed that. Multi-day Universal tickets now include unlimited access to all three parks — Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Epic Universe — on every day of your ticket. No more paying extra just to step foot in the newest park.
That single change makes a Universal Orlando vacation far easier to justify for a family. You get three full parks (plus Volcano Bay as an option) on one ticket.
What is Epic Universe, exactly?
Epic Universe is built around five immersive worlds:
- Celestial Park — the lush central hub (and now home to a new character, Captain Cacao, near Moonship Chocolates & Celestial Sweets)
- The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic — a brand-new Potter land
- Super Nintendo World — Mario, Donkey Kong, and the famous interactive Power-Up Bands
- How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk — family-friendly fun for younger kids
- Dark Universe — the classic monsters land, anchored by Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment and Curse of the Werewolf
One nice surprise a year in: the landscaping has matured, so there’s noticeably more natural shade than on opening day — a small thing that matters a lot on a hot Orlando afternoon.
Is Epic Universe good for younger kids, or just thrill-seekers?
Both, and that’s its strength. Super Nintendo World and How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk are wonderful for younger children, while Dark Universe and several Potter and Nintendo rides deliver real thrills for older kids and adults. Most families find there’s enough range that everyone has a great day — which is exactly the kind of thing we help you map out by your kids’ ages and heights before you go.
How many days do you need?
With three parks now on one ticket, we generally suggest at least 4–5 days for families who want to enjoy Epic Universe properly without racing through the other two parks. If Epic Universe is your main reason for the trip, give it a full day (or two) of its own.
Where should you stay?
Universal’s on-site hotels are the secret weapon, and there are now options near Epic Universe specifically:
- Stella Nova Resort & Terra Luna Resort — newer value-priced hotels built for Epic Universe. Stella Nova has a direct walking path to the park; Terra Luna is a bit farther (across a busy intersection), so it depends on how much walking your group wants.
- Premier hotels (Portofino Bay, Hard Rock, Royal Pacific) — these include Universal Express Unlimited, which lets you skip the regular lines at most rides. For a busy family trip, this perk alone can be worth the upgrade.
- Prime value & preferred hotels (Cabana Bay, Aventura, Sapphire Falls) — great middle-ground options.
Picking the right hotel is genuinely the highest-impact decision in your whole trip — it affects your budget, your walking, and whether you get the Express perk. It’s the first thing we sort out with every family. (See our Universal Orlando hotel guide and current Universal Orlando hotel deals.)
What does it cost, and how do you save?
This is where having a certified planner pays off. As of this spring, Universal’s offers were stackable — meaning the right booking could combine several at once:
- 15%–30% off flexible hotel rates on longer stays
- A $300 hotel dining credit on select 5-night stays
- A “Buy 3 Days, Get 2 Free” Epic Universe ticket promotion
- Free arrival-day Volcano Bay admission on select summer dates
Promotions change month to month and the fine print matters. We track these so you don’t have to, and we’ll stack everything you qualify for.
So — is it worth it in 2026?
If your family loves theme parks, yes. With all three parks now on one ticket, matured and more comfortable grounds, new hotels, and stackable deals, 2026 is a stronger value than the opening year. The key is planning it right: the correct number of days, the hotel that fits your group, and the deals stacked properly.
