Is Harry Potter at Disney World? Where to Find the Wizarding World in Orlando (2026 Guide)
No, Harry Potter is not at Walt Disney World. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is located exclusively at Universal Orlando Resort, in three separate park lands: Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida, Hogsmeade at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, and (as of 2025) Ministry of Magic at the new Universal Epic Universe theme park. Walt Disney World does not have any Harry Potter attractions, and Universal owns the exclusive theme-park licensing rights from Warner Bros.
This guide is updated for 2026 by Steve Griswold, founder of Pixie Vacations and a Disney College of Knowledge certified travel planner. Steve has personally toured every Wizarding World location in Orlando, including the brand-new Ministry of Magic at Epic Universe.
The Short Answer
- Walt Disney World — Harry Potter? No. No attractions, no merchandise, no rides.
- Disneyland (California) — Harry Potter? No. Same situation. Disney does not have rights to Harry Potter intellectual property in any of its U.S. theme parks.
- Universal Orlando Resort — Harry Potter? Yes. Three full Wizarding World lands across Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Islands of Adventure, and Universal Epic Universe. This is where Harry Potter fans should go.
- Universal Studios Hollywood (California) — Harry Potter? Yes. Hogsmeade and Hogwarts in California’s smaller Universal park. Less expansive than Orlando.
Why Isn’t Harry Potter at Disney World?
Universal Parks & Resorts holds the exclusive global theme park licensing rights to the Harry Potter franchise. The agreement was originally signed in 2007 between Universal Parks & Resorts and Warner Bros. (the studio that holds the Harry Potter film rights), and it remains in effect.
That means Walt Disney World cannot build any Harry Potter rides, recreate Hogwarts Castle, sell butterbeer, or include Harry Potter characters in any of its parks. Disney has its own iconic franchises (Marvel partially, Star Wars, Pixar, Disney Animation, Frozen, etc.) but the Wizarding World of Harry Potter belongs to Universal in the theme park context.
The Three Wizarding World Locations at Universal Orlando
1. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Hogsmeade (Universal’s Islands of Adventure)
This was the first Wizarding World location, opening in 2010. Hogsmeade recreates the snowy wizarding village from the books and films, with Hogwarts Castle towering over the land. The signature attraction is Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, a motion-based dark ride inside Hogwarts Castle. Other attractions include Flight of the Hippogriff (family coaster), Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure (one of the longest theme park coasters in the world), and Ollivanders Wand Shop. You can sip butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks, browse Honeydukes for sweets, and try interactive wand magic at over 25 spell locations throughout the land.
2. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Diagon Alley (Universal Studios Florida)
Diagon Alley opened in 2014 as the second Orlando Wizarding World expansion. The land hides behind a brick London facade and reveals the wizarding shopping district inside, complete with a fire-breathing dragon atop Gringotts Bank. The signature attraction is Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, a 3D dark ride coaster through the goblin-run wizarding bank. Attractions include the Knight Bus, Celestina Warbeck and the Banshees performance, the Tales of Beedle the Bard puppet show, and Ollivanders. The Hogwarts Express connects Diagon Alley directly to Hogsmeade — a Park-to-Park ticket is required to ride.
3. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic (Universal Epic Universe — NEW for 2025)
The newest and most ambitious Wizarding World yet, Ministry of Magic opened on May 22, 2025 with the debut of Universal Epic Universe. Set across two time periods — 1920s wizarding Paris and the British Ministry of Magic at Westminster — this land is themed around the world of Fantastic Beasts and the political intrigue of the Ministry. The headline attraction is Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, the most ambitious Wizarding World ride built to date with cutting-edge projection, animatronics, and trackless vehicle technology. Other experiences include Le Cirque Arcanus (a magical circus performance), shopping in 1920s Paris, and themed dining options at Le Gobelet Noir.
Wizarding World Comparison: Which One Should You Visit?
| Land | Park | Era | Headline Ride |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hogsmeade | Islands of Adventure | Hogwarts/Hogsmeade era | Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey |
| Diagon Alley | Universal Studios Florida | London/Diagon Alley era | Escape from Gringotts |
| Ministry of Magic | Epic Universe | 1920s Paris & Westminster Ministry | Battle at the Ministry |
For first-time Harry Potter visitors: ideally see all three. A 3-day Park-to-Park ticket lets you visit one Wizarding World per day with time to enjoy the rest of each park. The 2026 Buy 3 Days, Get 2 Days FREE at Epic Universe ticket promotion makes this affordable — see 2026 Universal Vacation Packages for current deals.
Will Disney Ever Get Harry Potter?
Probably not anytime soon. The Universal/Warner Bros. theme park license is exclusive and was renewed for the long term. Disney has built up its own competing intellectual property since the original deal — Marvel (with limitations in Florida), Star Wars (Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios), Avatar (Pandora at Animal Kingdom), Frozen, and several Pixar additions. Disney is highly unlikely to acquire Harry Potter rights for theme parks in the foreseeable future.
However, the rivalry between the franchises has been good for guests — both Disney World and Universal Orlando keep raising the bar with new lands. If you’re planning a 7+ day Orlando trip, doing a Disney + Universal split lets you experience the best of both worlds.
How to Plan a Disney + Universal Orlando Trip (Including Wizarding World)
Many families combine a Walt Disney World stay with a Universal Orlando portion to experience both franchises in one trip. A typical week-long itinerary:
- Days 1–3 — Walt Disney World (Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom)
- Day 4 — Travel/transition day; check into a Universal on-site hotel
- Day 5 — Universal Studios Florida (including Diagon Alley)
- Day 6 — Universal’s Islands of Adventure (including Hogsmeade and Hogwarts Castle)
- Day 7 — Universal Epic Universe (including Ministry of Magic)
This works particularly well with a Park-to-Park ticket (so you can ride the Hogwarts Express between Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade) and the new Buy 3 Get 2 Free Days deal, which gives you 5 days at Universal for the price of 3.
